We have our own community project whereby we support 40 children within the Nairobi Slums. These children come from very marginal backgrounds and live on extremely frugal means. Each day the children come to school, which is one classroom that has an added on kitchen and small washroom. This classroom is attended by two teachers who not only give the children inspiration to learn, but care for them, give them love and make sure they have adequate rest and food, so that they are equipped to return home with enough energy to get through the night even if they don’t get a good meal or a warm bed.
We provide them with basic food supplies, mattresses, utensils, books, stationary and anything we can to support them. Of course, the requirements are more than we can provide so any assistance is very much appreciated.
As of this year, the head teacher needs to pay rent for the schoolroom and wages to pay the second teacher. This costs $840 per year. A small donation goes a long way; even $1 a day will feed one child one meal. This makes an enormous difference to his or her life and gives their brain the food it needs to function and therefore learn.
Rent: $70 per month
Teacher one wages: $100 per month
Teacher two wages: $100 per month
Lunch for 40 children: $200 per month
Help us to raise money to help this school continue to give these young minds a chance to grow.
Please note, Kijiji School is very near to Wilson Airport – if your visit to Kenya means taking an internal flight, why not spend an hour at the school before taking off? SCC would be happy to arrange a visit to the school for you to see where your money is being given to.
