The Safaricom Marathon took place on Lewa Conservancy for the 19th time last weekend. It was a fabulous race, and one that was attended by hundred of supporters from all over the world.
The race, which can be either a half or full marathon, allows not only running enthusiasts to take part in a race of a lifetime, but also to see the Lewa-Borana Landscape close up, as well as understand the issues that the marathon raises money for.
The main recipient of the donations raised by the marathon is Tusk Trust. Tusk has always been a big supporter of the Lewa-Borana Landscape, and has helped to protect the area’s flourishing rhino population since inception.
The race was started by longtime supporter and First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta. Her Excellency the First Lady of Kenya, Mrs. Kenyatta, had stayed the night at Laragai House the night before the race, and wrote a lovely message in the guest book there to express her thanks for her enjoyable stay.
